London tenants who stay in their property for more than a year are paying 13 months’ rent a year to the cost of renewal fees, research from property-tech lettings company, Hello Neighbour has revealed. With the average London rent at around £2,500 a month and the average renewal fee at 8%, the landlord is paying £2,550. If that gets passed on to the tenant then they are effectively paying an extra month’s rent to stay in the same property – just to account for the renewal fee. Disney’s board urges shareholders to reject activist investors attempting to join board
Walt Disney Co. DIS, +0.07% on Thursday said its board of directors is urging shareholders to “protect their investment and the future of the Company by voting the WHITE proxy card for only Disney’s 12 nominees and not the Trian Group or Blackwells nominees.” The latter groups are activist investors who are trying to place representatives on Disney’s board. The Labour Party has committed to extending Awaab’s Law – where social landlords have to fix hazards quickly – to the private sector if they come to power. The new measures, which are currently under consultation, will mean social landlords have to investigate hazards within 14 days and make fixes in seven, as well as make emergency repairs within 24 hours.
