HomeLet’s CEO expressed disappointed at the lack of help in the Chancellor’s Spring Budget, as tenants are spending a third of their wages on rent even before taking utilities and other living costs into account. The proportion renters are spending on rent is +2.3% higher than 2023 alone and continues to creep up year-on-year. Andy Halstead, chief executive of HomeLet, said: “Price rises across most regions in the UK, coupled with an alarming rent-to-income ratio increase should show the government that now is the time to act. The rental market needs urgent support for both landlords and tenants alike –…
Misfits Market is an online grocery delivery service that sells “ugly” organic produce for cheap. In the first four months of 2021 alone, Misfits Market rescued the same amount of food it saved in 2020 as a whole. In 2020, Misfits Market shipped 77 million pounds of food to more than 400,000 households across the U.S. Since launching in 2018, Misfits Market has expanded to both coasts, has over 1,000 employees and has received over $300 million in funding. Bloomberg reports its valuation tops $1 billion, putting it into unicorn territory. But Misfits Market wasn’t an obvious success. In fact,…
Week Ahead: Central Banks | Seeking Alpha
Kirill Stytsenko/iStock via Getty Images There has been a dramatic adjustment to US rates. The two-year yield was near 4.40% before the US employment report on March 8 and it reached near 4.73% before the weekend. The 25 bp surge is the largest weekly increase since last May. For the first time in four months, the Fed funds futures strip no longer has at least three rate cuts discounted. The interest rate adjustment underpinned the dollar, which rose against all the G10 currencies last week. Like the US two-year yield (US2Y), the 10-year yield (US10Y) also rose every day last…

Inflation to fall back to 2% target in Q2
The UK’s inflation rate is likely to fall to 2% in the second quarter of 2024, which would bring it in line with the Bank of England’s long-term target. However the Bank said this might only be a temporary dip, as it’s likely inflation will rise again afterwards. Factors causing the inflation rate to surge again could be higher shipping costs due to Red Sea disruption, increases to the minimum wage, as well as higher business rates. Inflation figures for February will be released on 20 March, and the MPC will reveal its rate decision on 21 March. Susannah Streeter,…

Transition from BRC-20 to BRC-420 Tokens Signifies ‘Maturation Within Bitcoin-Based Defi,’ Says Mithil Thakore
While the Bitcoin network is poised to see significant growth in its Layer-2 (L2) ecosystem, “finding an optimal mechanism to maintain finality” on the network remains an inherent limitation that prevents this from happening, Mithil Thakore, the co-founder and CEO of Velar, has said. Thakore also identified the yet-to-be-optimized “bridging of native Layer-1 (L1) assets […] Source link
Chancellor Jeremy Hunt decided against launching a 99% mortgage scheme due to fears that it could push people into negative equity down the line. The scheme seemed to be reminiscent of Help to Buy, except it would have offered mortgages with a deposit of 1%. Speaking to MPs on the Treasury Committee, Hunt said: “I would have liked to have had some measures to help people get on the housing ladder but it is difficult to do that unless you are absolutely confident that property prices are back on the up, because otherwise you are encouraging people to get on…
