A rogue investor already banned from operating as a landlord has been using Airbnb through a third party, The Bristol Cable reports.
The landlord in question, Naomi Knapp, was previously banned for five years for issues including poor upkeep of communal areas and fire safety, while she was also handed a £22,000 fine in 2021.
She owns around 30 properties in Bristol.
Her long-term tenants were issued with Section 21 evictions after she was banned, but the same properties appeared on Airbnb via a third party.
Bristol City Council is now investigating whether this constitutes flouting the banning order.
A tenant told The Cable: “While I was living there [in one of the houses], there was a leak in the bathroom and it made the ceiling collapse on one of the rooms.”
Another house that appeared on Airbnb had black mould, and according to the tenant one of the walls was 34% damp.
They added: “She shouldn’t use them as Airbnbs – they’re not suitable.”
Currently there’s ambiguity regarding whether an Airbnb constitutes flouting the banning order.
