The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday voted 218-203 to pass a bill that would repeal President Joe Biden’s plan for mass student debt relief.
The vast majority of Republicans voted in favor of the resolution and the vast majority of Democrats in opposition, but at least two Democrats appeared to cast yea votes.
The plan, which would forgive up to $20,000 in student loans for Americans with individual incomes of less than $125,000, is on hold because of two challenges now being considered by the Supreme Court. The high court typically issues its decisions for the term by the end of June.
